Downtown Olympic Shot Put
April 21, 2017
True to our Unmistakably Lawrence nature, Lawrence will convert the intersection of 8th and New Hampshire Streets by hauling in 7 tons of crushed limestone to build-out a shot put venue for this one-day competition. In turn, a world-class field of throwers will compete in front of thousands of spectators. Live music from the Brody Buster Band follows the competition while the crowd and athletes stick around to make it a celebration. The event is one of many fan events of the Kansas Relays which is celebrating its 90th year.
Five of the eight throwers in this year’s competition are among the top 25-ranked throwers in the world, including Olympic gold medalist and record holder Ryan Crouser and defending Downtown Shot Put champ Stephen Mozia.
The competition begins at 4:30 PM.
