The University of Kansas broke ground for the 32,000-square-foot DeBruce Center on May 2, 2014. The DeBruce Center features James Naismith's original "Rules of Basket ball".
The new facility was made possible by a lead gift from the DeBruce Foundation. The DeBruce Center features:
- The original rules of basketball, created in 1891 by James Naismith and purchased by benefactors David and Suzanne Booth
- Displays celebrating James Naismith, the "Father of Basketball", and Forrest "Phog" Allen, the "Father of - Basketball Coaching".
- The Courtside Cafe, with seating for over 200
- A catering space for special events
- The Original Rules Gift Shop
Facility Information
The DeBruce Center is a unique facility showcasing the history of basketball, including Dr. James Naismith’s Original Rules of Basketball in the Rules Gallery. Several areas of the DeBruce Center are available for meetings and private events, with the largest space offering seating for up to 330 people, and a maximum occupancy of 680.
