USSSA World Series Tournament is expected to bring about 2200 people to Lawrence for Girls Fastpitch Softball
(LAWRENCE) United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Fastpitch World Series will bring 60 teams from ten states to Lawrence July 21 through 26 with a week-long agenda of games. Lawrence will host about 2200 people, including players (girls 14 and under) and their families, from Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado, Illinois, Oklahoma, Minnesota, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin and Kansas.
In hosting this event, Lawrence gains the revenue of 1100 hotel room nights booked and the players and families will have the opportunity to dine, shop and explore Lawrence during their six-day visit.
USSSA World Series tournament competition for its Central Region will be held at Clinton Lake Sports Complex throughout the week, according to Bob Sanner, Lawrence Convention and Visitors Bureau, who helped organize the event. Winning teams will advance to the USSSA World Series Finals in West Covina, CA July 28 through August 3.
The tournament’s Opening Ceremonies will begin with a kick off at The Lied Center on Monday, featuring a live performance by Von Smith. Smith appeared on E!’s “Opening Act,” ABC’s “The View,” and was a finalist on American Idol Season 8, as well as opening for Lady Gaga during her 2012 Australian Tour.
The Lawrence Aquatic Center will host all the team members for a social event that will include lots of music, fun, water and sun. Teams are encouraged to bring a pop-up tent and decorate it with a Luau theme, complete with costumes and party favors. Prizes will be awarded for the top three team tents.
The public is invited to attend the USSSA World Series events at Clinton Lake Sports Complex. There is an admission fee. For more information about the games, contact email@example.com.
