International marketing award presented to Lawrence’s Visitors Guide magazine
Lawrence: With engaging photographs and helpful itineraries to introduce visitors to Lawrence, the 2014/15 Visitors Guide magazine has been recognized in an international awards competition. Marcom Awards, an international creative competition that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communications professionals, included the Visitors Guide in its 2014 list of winners. The Gold Award was given to Lawrence Convention & Visitors Bureau’s annual publication because it was judged to “exceed the high standards of the industry.”
Toni Dixon, LCVB manager of marketing and communications, said the Lawrence Convention & Visitors Bureau worked with Sunflower Publishing to produce the annual Visitors Guide that is distributed throughout Lawrence and mailed to potential travelers interested in coming to Lawrence. The 44 page publication is free and available at The Visitors Center, located in the historic Union Pacific train depot at 402 N. 2nd Street and in stores, hotels and museums throughout Lawrence and Douglas County.
Marcom Awards said entries come from corporate marketing and communications departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design groups, production companies and freelancers. It is one of the largest competitions of its kind in the world and the winners range in size from individual communicators to media corporations and Fortune 500 companies.
The LCVB is the driving force behind multiple community events, such as Downtown Olympic Shotput and Tour of Lawrence. In addition the LCVB works with its hotel partners to bring conventions, annual meetings, corporate trainings and seminars to Lawrence. These corporate and professional conventions from Kansas and other states result in extended stays that have a very positive effect on the entire city, benefitting the local economy and promoting the community as an inviting destination. In addition to the Visitors Guide magazine, the LCVB highlights events, activities and attractions throughout Lawrence on its website, and through social media, promoting Lawrence as a great spot for leisure travel.
